Lavender: A symbol of purity, devotion, serenity and calmness
Lavender is known for its beautiful colour, refreshing fragrance, and calming effect, but did you know it is also one of the most versatile herbs you can grow. Lavender is popular for stress relief in bubble baths and candles, it cleanses, soothes aches and burns, and induces sleep. Like other herbs, lavender also has culinary uses and makes a unique addition to cakes, lemonade, and cookies. There are 47 species of lavender with over 450 varieties with different qualities, colours (i.e pink, purple, white), smells, and growing needs. Overall, lavender prefers lots of sun, dry conditions, and poor soil quality, making it one plant that I can actually grow!
Lavender SESSIONS
Flower fields are a beautiful and unique place to create lasting memories. The vibrant display of colours, the aroma, and their calming nature make them the perfect for capturing those sweet connections between loved ones and nature. Lavender fields are gorgeous with tons of room to move around for you and your family! The greens contrast beautifully with the purples. Golden hour sessions are my favourite because they create softer (and more flattering) light with the beautiful yellow sun rays enhancing the beauty of the purple plants. The rows of lavender plants also add a lot of the opportunity for playful photos while kids are exploring the gardens. You may choose to enhance your session by purchasing a fresh bundle of lavender or even pick your own during the session for a small fee. As far as wardrobe goes, consider soft tones - yellow, pink, or denim blue. White and creams also look fantastic surrounded by lavender and beautifully compliments the soft violet and purple tones while drawing in the sunlight. If you wish to rent a gown, I can suggest a few places and even offer a discount if you find a gown through Sugar Bump Gown Rentals.
Lavender BLU
The Lavender-Blu eco-garden, studio/gift shop and hobby farm is located 10 minutes north of Port Perry. There are around 3,000 lavender plants in hues that range from light pink to dark purple/blue. On-site are three garden areas with plenty of lavender and some wildflowers that add an extra splash of colour, a beautiful gazebo, 2 pergola structures with beautiful white curtains that elegantly blow in the wind, a wooden art structure that doubles as an eco-hotel for pollinators, and bistro tables and chairs. This year Natural Connections Photography will be offering sessions in the evening on July 11, 2023. During this point in the season the lavender buds are open and provide an intense pink and purple background. The shrubs should be taking on a silvery grey hue rather than a bright green by this point as well which further accentuates the stunning floral colours. We may also find Sunflowers, Cone flowers, Russian sage, Globe thistle, Canlendula, and Cosmos in the gardens which add to the beautiful backdrop and provides more variety for photos. Bees are in the field during this time, but they are busy in the flowers and don't bother humans.
